What a fabulous Pagan Pride Day! We had a great time yesterday, and a very well attended event. The community received favorable media coverage, and collected a truckload (literally) of donated food for the Unitarian Church Food Bank. SMHS received $50 in donations and additional people signed up as members. We are now in the thick of planning for Chamisa Local Council's annual Magickal Mountain Mabon.

May all of you and yours be blessed on this day of remembrance. The Board, Members and Volunteers of SMHS offer a prayer of hope and renewal to all who suffered any loss on this day 5 years past, or in the conflicts arising from that day.

We got an e-mail wondering if we had any plans to deploy our mobile healer's tent to the Gulf Coast to help with the post-Katrina recovery efforts. Some SMHS members had actually talked about that possibility, and quickly determined that we would be overwhelmed once we got there, and would likely be out of supplies in less than a day with no logistical support to replenish (short of breaking into local clinics and pharmacies, which might get us shot). We have talked in the past about offering our all-volunteer service as part of the NM state disaster response system, even if just to provide a clinic to treat rescuers involved in a response, like during the Los Alamos wildfire a few years back - after all, our tent can be carried and set up almost anywhere. This may be an appropriate avenue for us to approach in the future, and will be put on the agenda for this year's Annual General Meeting.

In the meantime, there are many ways in which you can assist with relief efforts. Donations can be made to the Red Cross, and if you live in New Mexico and are a health care professional, you can also volunteer through the NM State Dept. of Health. Finally, you can perform what spiritual and magickal work you feel is appropriate and ethically sound - sending healing energy, holding a memorial circle, praying for the survivors and the deceased. Our members know that millions and millions of hearts and lives have been touched by this tragedy, and many want to help in any way they can. Remember that memories (particularly the media's memory) are short, and the needs will not be. It may be most helpful to offer your help and support in the weeks after this has faded from the news.

Bright Blessings to you all,

The SMHS Board of Directors

The members of SMHS wish for you

all of the Blessings of Spring at Ostara
